“Well that was easy what shall we do next”, “Phew, glad that’s over, “he had to stick his oar in”  and “did that T-shirt fit when you started” were a few comments as captions to the photographs below.

Saturday morning, 27th Feb at the Kings School recreation centre was “a Buzz” with excitment and anticipation as the clock slowly ticked down and the metres racked up. Would Ricky & John break the million metre record, how much longer would the adrenaline pump to see them break the longest continual row. All these questions and more were being asked as people piled in to offer their support. I heard someone say how tired they felt but in the same breath mention that they had had 4 good nights sleep since this epic challenge had begun and the pair were still both awake, feeding on the excitment from the crowd.

The fastest 1 million metre indoor tandem row was smashed with a time of 3 days: 15 hours: 34 minutes & 48 seconds (beating the previous best by 1hr:19mins:20secs) and the longest continual row was surpassed by 5 minutes & 42 seconds now standing at an impressive 3days:16hrs:59mins:50Secs

This fantastic mind blowing achievement was all in support of the East Kent Dementia Appeal and 7 other children’s charities as nominated by Ricky as detailed on the “Just Giving” page https://crownfunding.justgiving.com/ricky-reina-2?utm_id=91 should you wish to make a small contribution, which would be welcomed & appreciated by all parties.

World Record Attempts

Kings School recreation centre Canterbury is hosting this Double World Record Rowing attempt. Those of you who know Ricky personally will totally understand the reasons why he challenges himself to undertake these remarkable feats.

The current “MAD” test of his skills / fitness / mental endurance is an attempt at a Double World Record. The fastest tandem row to reach 1000000 metres (1000km – the distance between Canterbury & Gothenburg, Sweden) and the longest continual tandem row which currently stands at a staggering 3 days, 16 hours, 54 mins and 8 seconds. His partner in crime for these “mind blowing ” tasks is John Wilson who seems to be the calming influence of the pair.

The two cohorts have received tremendous support from family, friends and staff at the Kings School recreation centre where the event is being held. If you would like to offer your support why not pop along and see history being made on Saturday the 27th Feb 2016 . Both records should be broken around 09.30ish & midday respectively.

This “simple” feat of rowing continually for 4 days is only a precursor for the slightly more daunting task of rowing the ATLANTIC next year following the route of Christopher Columbus rowing from Cadiz, Spain to Antigua, 3800 nautical miles.

Ricky hopes to raise a lot of money for his favourite charities whose logos can be seen displayed on the wall behind him in the photograph below which also shows Charlotte (Ricks understanding wife) and a close friend Geoff Crouch of Jenner Contruction who thought he would see what rowing the odd 8 seconds would feel like

A special thank you must go to Clare Reed & Mat Lister (Manager & Head of PE) along with the staff of the Kings School Centre who have been fantastic with their support
